***OFFICIAL*** How to Re-format your G-mod

This tutorial will show you how to clean up your Garry's Mod folder, doing this fixes a lot of problems that people have with models and errors on our server.

Note: It also improves the time it takes to join servers on Garry's Mod so it is worth doing once in a while anyway.


Tutorial

Step 1.

You need to find your 'garrysmod' folder. The folder can be found at: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod\garrysmod

Note: The Green Box is where your steam username will be.

Step 2.

If there are certain addon's / maps that you wish to keep then inside the 'garrysmod' folder you will see this:

Red Square - Where you will find the addons you have.
Green Square - Where you will find the maps you have.

Create a two new folders (doesn't matter where but on the desktop is the best place) one named 'addons' and one named 'maps'.

'Drag and drop' the addons you wanted to keep into the new addons folder and the maps into the new maps folder.

Note: For Maps you only need the .bsp files, the other files are automatically created when the map is ran.

Step 3.

Now you have the content you want to keep the next step is deleting the 'garrysmod' folder.

The folder that you delete is: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod\garrysmod

IMPORTANT: It is the second 'garrysmod' folder that you need to delete NOT the one before this (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod)

Step 4.

Start up Garry's Mod normally in steam (it automatically gets all the core files back in the 'garrysmod' folder).

Close Garry's Mod.

Note: The next step only applies to people who had addons or maps they wanted to keep.

Step 5.

How to put your saved addons back

Open the 'garrysmod' folder: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod\garrysmod.

Open the addons folder, notice it will be empty because you have just reformatted the whole Garry's Mod folder.

Find the addons folder you have with the addons you saved in Step 2 and open this.

'Drag and Drop' the addons into the empty addons folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons)

How to put your saved Maps back

Open the 'garrysmod' folder: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod\garrysmod.

Open the maps folder, notice it will be empty because you have just reformatted the whole Garry's Mod folder.

Find the maps folder you have with the maps you saved in Step 2 and open this.

'Drag and Drop' the maps into the empty maps folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<YourSteamUserNameHere>\garrysmod\garrysmod\maps)
