I doubt we wil ever have a defence that is cablabe of destroying somthing that size, besides even if we did do you really think it would be wise to put somthing that powerful in human hands?

Besides, this asteroid (Apophis) is scheduled for a 1 in 450,000 chance at impact during 2036. To play devil's advocate and speak on behalf of people who believe this shit - humanity will already be extinct by 2036 (think 2012) so I really don't know what you're all worried about >.>

And now that I think about it, shouldn't we have all been sucked very rapidly towards Switzerland last year? I don't recall seeing any black holes.

A nuke in 45 could destroy a city, 20 nukes in 2045 should be able to destroy a moon. Logic of advance.

There is a way to divert the path of a meteor slightly by placing a shuttle near the meteor and using the gravitational pull from the shuttle to move it's path ever so slightly and miss the earth.

That's our only plan currently

Shame the asteroid is a motherfucking big rock that likely has its own gravity >.>

Everything has it's own gravity, difference is that a shuttle has thrusters or whatever to thrust itself

Or we can attach rockets to one end of the asteroid... dunno how we'd do that though...
